Hue to Phong Nha

Hue to Phong Nha Cave - Hoi An 5 days 4 nights

This very diverse multi-day tour gives you a good insight of real Vietnam. It's a great way to explore the rural life, see ethnic minorities, visit one of the largest and most beautiful water caves in the world, drive through pristine jungle and mountains, swim in waterfalls, visit Vietnamese war sites, and so on. There are regular stops to take photos, stretch your legs or just to have one of world’s most flavoursome coffees. You will stay in comfortable hotels and as much as possible we will sample delicious local food.

Day 1

On the first day you will visit several interesting sites around Hue including a monastery, pagoda and Royal Tombs. Continuing on the road we drive through the rural countryside and visit various DMZ sites like the bombed Long Hung church and the Bo De school. At the end of the afternoon we will arrive at the beach where a refreshing dip can be made. We spend the night at a family owned hotel overlooking the beach.

Day 2

The second day we will visit the impressive Vinh Moc tunnels where the Vietnamese lived in an ‘underground village' to shelter from the American bombs during the war. Afterwards we will start driving along highway 9 (part of the Ho Chi Minh trail) towards Phong Nha to visit the beautiful Water Cave, one of the largest cave systems in the world. Along the way there will be several stops to visit historical war sites and see the rural farming life. The night is spend at a comfortable hotel.

Day 3

From Phong Nha we will go down south along the famous Ho Chi Minh trail. This section of the road near the Lao border has yet to be discovered as this seems to be an abandoned road for miles and miles snaking through an unrivalled jungle mountain scenery. Driving here you are unlikely to see ANY other tourists and you will keep on wondering if it ever gets better than this. Along the way we’ll pass a few minority villages and in the afternoon we arrive in Khe Sahn where you can visit the remnants of a famous USA army base. It’s here where the Americans faced one of the most terrible battles of the Vietnam War and eventually had to withdraw. Overnight stay in Khe Sahn.

Day 4

From Khe Sahn we will continue on the spectacular Ho Chi Minh trail. Again we will drive through the mountains on winding roads with stunning views and pass many villages. If weather allows there will be time to go for a swim in a waterfall. While driving, the infamous ‘Hamburger Hill’ can be seen from a distance. This is where many North Vietnamese and American soldiers lost their lives in a fierce battle for the mountain. At the end of the day we will visit a ethnic minority village and see their beautiful community house. Overnight in nearby village.

Day 5

The last day starts with a beautiful ride through a rural landscape where ethnic minority villages are scattered along the way. Once we reach Danang we’ll ride to the top of the Hai Van pass which has spectacular views on both sides of the mountains. From here we turn around and continue to Hoi An. Other stops will be made at the beautiful China Beach in Danang and the lovely Marble Mountains. In the afternoon the tour ends in charming Hoi An.
